However, the presence of CEA in abnormal amounts can lead to cancer. A CEA test is conducted to measure the level of proteins and keep a check on the recurrence of colon or other types of cancers in patients who are already diagnosed with cancer. The accepted range of this protein is between 0 and 0.25 micro-organisms per liter. Presence of CEA at an elevated level in recently treated cancer patients indicates recurrence of the ailment.
